Fuite de gaz, explosion au CICAD : Comment l'Hôpital Principal de Dakar s'est préparé au pire
A gas leak followed by a violent explosion at the Abdou Diouf International Conference Center (CICAD) in Diamniadio. Slabs collapsed, panic ensued, and dozens of injured people needed emergency medical attention and evacuation to healthcare facilities. Firefighters deployed to the scene, while Dakar's Main Hospital immediately activated its emergency plan to cope with a massive influx of victims.
Fortunately, this scene was not real. It was a scenario from "FAGGARU 2026", a full-scale exercise organized by the Main Hospital of Dakar to test its ability to respond to a major disaster.
For several hours, doctors, nurses, administrative staff, and rescue teams recreated the conditions of an exceptional emergency. The objective: to assess the speed of team mobilization, the coordination of different services, and the effectiveness of victim care, while maintaining continuity of care for other patients.
In total, 40 simulated victims were received and triaged according to the severity of their condition. The lessons learned from this exercise will further strengthen the response system of Dakar's Main Hospital to ensure it is prepared to handle any mass casualty emergency.
