Grève : And Gueusseum annonce une pause, mais prépare son 14e plan d’actions
The Alliance of Autonomous Health Unions (ASAS) and Gueusseum are maintaining pressure on the government. Following a 24-hour total strike on Friday, August 14, 2026, with a reported participation rate of between 90 and 100%, the union has announced a pause for the Gamou festival before resuming its movement in September.
The standoff between the Government and healthcare and social services workers continues. In a press release published on August 16, 2026, the National Board of ASAS And Gueusseum praised the strong mobilization of its activists and supporters during the strike day of August 14, presented as a "historic result" with participation between 90 and 100%.
This mobilization is part of the Alliance's 13th action plan. For And Gueusseum, this total strike, carried out without observing emergency services or minimum service requirements, constitutes a response to the deductions made from wages, to what the unions describe as the Government's persistent inaction, and to the treatment reserved for their alliance in the matter of social liabilities.
Minimum service at the heart of the protest
And Gueusseum also returns to the issue of emergency services and minimum service. The Alliance explains that, for years, health and social care workers had agreed, in the name of humanitarian considerations, to designate staff to ensure continuity of care during strike action.
But according to the unions, this practice has gradually come to be seen by the authorities as a permanent obligation. And Gueusseum specifically denounces the deductions and salary reductions imposed on striking employees, as well as the pressure exerted on workers.
Faced with this situation, the Alliance claims to have decided to return to what it considers "trade union orthodoxy", with strike actions without observing emergencies and minimum service.
A break for Gamou before another 48-hour strike
Despite the ongoing standoff, And Gueusseum has announced a strategic pause for the Gamou, the celebration of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This temporary suspension of the movement will be followed by a new phase of mobilization.
As part of its 14th action plan, the Alliance is planning a 48-hour national strike on Thursday, September 3 and Friday, September 4, 2026. The movement will be accompanied by the continued withholding of health and social data, a measure whose significant consequences for the population, the health system and, more broadly, for the State, are acknowledged by And Gueusseum.
A new appeal to the President of the Republic
Faced with what the union considers a deadlock in the management of the conflict, the National Directorate of ASAS And Gueusseum is directly appealing to the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
The Alliance is asking the head of state to intervene to help resolve what it describes as a "perilous and chronic" social conflict.
While awaiting a possible outcome to the negotiations, And Gueusseum calls on its activists and supporters to remain mobilized, united, and determined until its demands are met. The Alliance also affirms that the struggle will continue in the name of social justice.
