Grève du SAMES : Le ministère de la Santé assure la continuité des soins
While the Autonomous Union of Doctors, Pharmacists and Dental Surgeons of Senegal (SAMES) observes a 48-hour strike on Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 September 2026, the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene says it is ensuring continuity of care.
In a statement published on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, the ministry indicated that it had "taken the necessary steps to ensure, throughout the territory, the continuity of care and the operation of services in public health facilities."
Furthermore, the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene remains open to resuming discussions with the union to ensure better working conditions for healthcare staff. "The Ministry also reaffirms its commitment to continuing efforts to improve working conditions for staff, within the framework of constructive social dialogue," the statement reads.
According to the ministry, the previous discussion session could not be held due to the absence of the Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, Ibrahima Sy, whose presence had been deemed essential by the SAMES delegation. The delegation then decided to withdraw before the discussions even began, the ministry reports.
However, during this session, the ministry emphasized that it had mobilized "a high-level delegation including the secretary general, the chief of staff, as well as the directors and coordinators of the entities concerned."
