Hôpital Principal de Dakar : Les syndicats exigent le maintien de la polyclinique dans l’établissement
The inter-union of civilian workers of the Main Hospital of Dakar (CNTS, SUTSAS, STC-HPD and SACSASS) demands the suspension of "any act aimed at detaching the polyclinic from the Main Hospital".
In a statement released on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, the unions argued that this facility, designed and financed as part of the Dakar Main Hospital (HPD) modernization project, should remain attached to the hospital. They also denounced the gradual transfer of staff and equipment from the Main Hospital to the polyclinic, seeing it as a risk of weakening the institution.
"What was designed to strengthen the Main Hospital must not be used to weaken it," reads the statement, which recalls that the project to create the polyclinic was initially intended to allow the Main Hospital to meet new technological and medical challenges, strengthen its capacities and help reduce medical evacuations.
The unions thus reaffirm their opposition to "a two-tiered healthcare system" and advocate for a polyclinic "integrated into the Main Hospital and serving all Senegalese."
The inter-union group is also demanding transparent governance of the polyclinic and is questioning its possible removal from the Public Procurement Code as well as the lack of connection with the Ministry of Health.
Beyond the polyclinic, labor unions are calling on President Bassirou Diomaye Faye to extend housing allowances to contract workers in public health facilities. They reiterate that this measure is, in their view, among the commitments of the social stability pact.
