Kébémer : Un premier cas de diphtérie enregistré, les autorités sanitaires en alerte
Kébémer has recorded its first case of diphtheria. According to community radio station Keb's FM 89.6, which reported the news on Thursday, a second suspected case has also been reported in the area.
An infectious disease to monitor closely
Diphtheria is an infectious and contagious disease that is mainly transmitted through the respiratory tract, via coughing, sneezing, or close contact. Without prompt treatment, it can lead to serious complications.
In affected individuals, the disease typically manifests as a progressive sore throat accompanied by a moderate fever, inflammation of the throat and tonsils covered with a thick greyish coating, as well as swollen lymph nodes in the neck.
In response to this situation, health authorities have issued a maximum alert and announced the implementation of all necessary measures to contain any potential spread of the disease. Public awareness campaigns are already planned, the same source added.
