In total, 520 women benefited from free consultation and screening during the Pink October campaign organized from October 23 to 24 by the military hospital Doctor-Colonel Georges Nioucky of Ziguinchor.

Military Zone No. 5 organized a "Pink October" campaign from October 22nd to 23rd, 2026. It mobilized military health services to benefit the families of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), as well as the civilian population of Ziguinchor and its surroundings.

The launch ceremony was presided over by Lieutenant-Colonel Mamadou Madiariou Diallo, head of the 5th Infantry Battalion and representative of the commander of Military Zone No. 5. For two days, doctors, midwives and paramedical staff conducted awareness sessions on risk factors, warning signs and means of prevention of women's cancers.

According to Lieutenant-Colonel Assane Diatta, the hospital director, this initiative is part of the Armed Forces' commitment to strengthening the prevention and early detection of diseases that continue to wreak havoc on Senegalese women.

Participants were informed about the importance of early screening, the only way to detect precancerous lesions before they develop into serious forms. Demonstrations of breast self-examination were also conducted to help women better monitor their health and quickly detect any breast abnormalities.

Beyond screening, the campaign placed significant emphasis on prevention through the vaccination of adolescent girls against human papillomavirus. The 65 vaccinated girls, aged 9 to 14, represent a powerful symbol of the health services' commitment to protecting future generations against this preventable disease.

With 520 women consulted and screened in just two days, this health operation appears to be a real success for the military and health authorities of Ziguinchor.
