Maladie mystérieuse à Kebemer : Le ministère de la santé leve les équivoques
The alert surrounding a mysterious illness in Kébémer has taken a new turn. While reports circulated that 149 people were hospitalized in the Kébémer health district, the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene has now released its version of events. In a statement published this Thursday, November 5, 2026, the ministry reported 56 people presenting symptoms of a digestive illness, 42 of whom required hospitalization.
According to the ministry, the cases were reported between November 2nd and 4th in the Kébémer health district, in the Louga region. The reported clinical manifestations include diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, sometimes accompanied by fever. This official report sheds light on a situation that has raised concerns in the area.
However, a discrepancy remains between the 149 hospitalizations mentioned in the initial reports and the 42 hospital admissions reported by health authorities. The ministry's statement offers no explanation for this difference in figures.
Possible food or water contamination
Regarding the origin of this episode, initial observations point to a possible foodborne or waterborne poisoning. However, at this stage, no cause has been definitively established.
To identify the cause of these digestive symptoms, joint teams from the Louga Regional Health Directorate and the Prevention Directorate were deployed to support the teams from the Kébémer health district. Thorough investigations are underway. Regarding healthcare, the Ministry reports that all those affected have received treatment. Their overall health is considered stable, and no deaths have been recorded as of the date of this statement.
While awaiting the conclusions of the investigations, the Department of Health assures that it is closely monitoring the evolving situation, in collaboration with administrative authorities and local communities. It also urges the public to remain vigilant, to adhere to health recommendations, and to rely exclusively on information disseminated by official sources. One question remains, however: what explains the discrepancy between the 149 people initially reported and the 56 cases identified by the Ministry?
