Maladie mystérieuse : on est passé de 129 à 420 victimes
The mysterious infection sweeping through Kébémer is spreading rapidly. According to L'Observateur on Friday, November 6, the number of infected individuals has jumped from 129 to 420 in just a few days. The outbreak has also spread beyond the city limits, with one case reported in Touba and 22 others in Ngaye Mékhé.
The newspaper of the Future Media Group reports that initial epidemiological investigations reveal that 100% of those seen had attended the large weekly market (Louma) in Kébémer, held on Monday. This leads investigators to suspect possible food or water poisoning.
Faced with the saturation of the local health center, the army and private health facilities were requisitioned to lend a hand to the medical teams.
Analyses in progress
The Sen'Eau company is conducting water analyses, while the laboratories of the Ministry of Health are examining patient samples in order to identify the pathogen.
Despite the scale of the situation, Dr. Moustapha Faye, regional health director of Louga, quoted by L'Observateur, wants to reassure: no deaths or major complications have been reported at this stage.
