Matam : Le SAMES dénonce un « malaise profond » du système de santé au premier jour de sa grève
The Union of Doctors, Pharmacists and Dental Surgeons (SAMES) of the Matam area reiterated, this Tuesday September 8, its call for the application of the 2022 agreements, thus marking the first day of a 48-hour national strike.
In a statement read by Dr. Boubacar Sarr, nephrologist at the Matam regional hospital and local head of SAMES, the union section denounces a "deep malaise" that is plaguing the health system.
To remedy this, SAMES sets out three national requirements: the development of a special status for the medical profession, the acceleration of the reform of the health map through appropriate infrastructure and equipment, as well as better governance marked by the cessation of untimely assignments and the active involvement of trade union organizations.
At the local level, the grievances are just as pressing. The union is demanding the effective opening of the new hospital in Ourossogui, the contractualization of doctors working on fixed-term contracts, the increase in the balancing subsidy allocated to the hospitals of Matam and Ourossogui, as well as the urgent provision of a scanner for the regional hospital of Matam.
“We are not asking for more promises, we are asking for decisions, a timetable and action,” Dr. Sarr insisted, before concluding: “When a hospital lacks staff, it is the patients who wait.”
