Pénurie de chimiothérapie : Des patients cancéreux lancent un SOS face à la rupture de Xeloda
A critical shortage of Xeloda is currently affecting healthcare facilities across the country. This oral chemotherapy drug, essential for treating several serious illnesses such as breast, colorectal, and stomach cancers, remains unavailable, plunging many patients into anguish and interrupting their treatment.

The ordeal of patients is illustrated by the testimony of Amadou Sow, himself a cancer patient, who undertook an unsuccessful search throughout the Dakar region. He explains that he visited no fewer than five major hospital facilities, namely Dalal Jamm Hospital, Ouakam Military Hospital, Fann Hospital, Abass Ndao Hospital and Dakar Main Hospital, with the same unequivocal result: a widespread stock shortage.
Subject to a strict protocol requiring the daily intake of eight tablets until November, Mr. Sow also emphasizes the heavy financial burden placed on patients when the treatment is available in the private sector. With a price of 120,000 FCFA for a box of 120 tablets, the treatment lasts no more than fifteen days, making the financial burden unsustainable for many households.
Faced with what he calls a life-or-death emergency, Amadou Sow is directly appealing to the Minister of Health and Social Action. He is demanding immediate action, emphasizing that for people suffering from cancer, a disruption in supplies is not simply an administrative malfunction, but a matter of life or death.
While specifying that he is not requesting any special privilege or favor, the patient urges public authorities to guarantee continued access to life-saving treatments, insisting that human lives are directly dependent on the prompt restocking of hospital pharmacies.
