Tivaouane : L'hôpital El Hadji Malick Sy désormais opérationnel
The Seydi El Hadji Malick Sy National Hospital Center in Tivaouane, whose construction and equipment cost 46 billion CFA francs, was officially inaugurated this Monday, August 10th, by the Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, Dr. Ibrahima Sy. The ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Infrastructure, Déthié Fall, and a large delegation from the Caliph General of the Tijaniyya order.
The said ceremony marks the effective start of medical activities at this modern level 3 hospital (the first in the Thiès region), with a capacity of 300 beds, an area of 24,000 m2, 25 medical-surgical services, 5 medical-technical services (pharmacy, laboratory, imaging, blood bank, central sterilization, pediatrics, gynecology, cardiology and pneumology).
The public health establishment (EPS), which strengthens the healthcare provision in the Thiès region, will strengthen medical care and the technical platform in view of the Gamou, with therefore a specialized technical platform: imaging (MRI, scanners); 6 operating rooms, specialized units (emergency, dialysis, major burns, mother-child) and training facilities (200-seat amphitheater).
The opening also responds to a directive from the Head of State who, during the Council of Ministers on July 1, 2026, had asked the government to take the necessary steps for the opening of the new El Hadji Malick Sy hospital in Tivaouane, particularly in view of the religious celebrations in August.
