Tivaouane : L'hôpital Mame Abdou Aziz Sy se dote enfin d'une unité de dialyse
"The installation of a dialysis unit at the Mame Abdou Aziz Sy Hospital in Tivaouane should be completed within a maximum of three weeks." The announcement was made by the hospital's director, Yoro Diagne, who is determined to do everything possible to meet the established deadline.
He also pledged to cover the remaining costs of necessary equipment, including furniture and some nursing staff. It's also worth noting that the Director of Public Health Facilities, Colonel Mouhamadou Sakho, visited the hospital last Wednesday. Following this visit, Carrefour Médical delivered five additional dialysis machines, significantly strengthening the technical capabilities of the future unit.
The equipment for the water treatment system, essential for the service's operation, is also expected in the coming days. The facility's director, Yoro Diagne, assures that all the conditions are now in place for the swift commissioning of this health infrastructure, which is eagerly awaited by the residents of Tivaouane and the surrounding area.
The unit will have ten dialysis machines, exceeding the minimum capacity required for a hemodialysis center. The minimum for a dialysis center is eight machines. "We will have ten in total, which corresponds to the capacity of the majority of dialysis centers in the country," Mr. Diagne stated. He praised the strategic partnership with Carrefour Médical, the leading supplier of hemodialysis kits in Senegal and representative of the NIPRO brand, whose equipment is used in a large number of dialysis centers in Senegal.
The Ministry of Health and Social Action will, for its part, ensure the assignment of nephrologists and senior technicians specializing in nephrology, in order to guarantee care that meets the required standards. Beyond the infrastructure and equipment, the future dialysis unit in Tivaouane represents, for the director, "a humane response to daily suffering."
Many patients in the department suffering from kidney failure were, until now, forced to make incessant weekly trips between Tivaouane and Thiès, Dakar, or other localities, to benefit from vital dialysis sessions.
