VIH : les États-Unis et le Fonds mondial visent 3 millions de bénéficiaires du lénacapavir d'ici 2028
The United States State Department announced on April 14, 2026, the strengthening of its partnership with Gilead Sciences and the Global Fund, aimed at improving access to lenacapavir (LEN), an injectable drug administered twice a year for the prevention of HIV.
According to the official statement, LEN has demonstrated 99.9% efficacy in preventing HIV in large-scale clinical trials.
“Building on its initial investment to shape the market for access to LEN, the State Department is today strengthening its commitment to enable an additional one million people in high-risk countries to benefit from the annual two-dose treatment. Following today’s announcement, the United States and the Global Fund have committed to providing three million people with the LEN program by 2028 in high-risk countries,” the statement reads.
He specifies that he will continue to establish a priority order among the beneficiary countries, based on two criteria: the prevalence of HIV in these countries and the strength of existing infrastructure for the distribution and supply of the drug.
In coordination with national government partners, the State Department will also continue to support complementary projects. "These projects aim to promote access to care, strengthen health systems, and advance the elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, within the framework of the Trump Administration's America First Global Health Strategy. This expanded partnership demonstrates President Trump's commitment to his goal of ending mother-to-child transmission of HIV by the end of his second term," the document reviewed today stated.
