A major health threat to Senegalese consumers has been averted thanks to a tip from Interpol Banjul. Inspector General of Police Mame Seydou Ndour, Director General of the National Police, urgently contacted Colonel Maodo Malick Diop, Director of the National Hygiene Service, to stop a large shipment of frozen buffalo meat unfit for human consumption.

The initial alert was issued by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Banjul, The Gambia. According to security information, the implicated batch of meat was being transported aboard the vessel AURETTE A , container number SEGU9649833. Initially destined for the Egyptian market, the goods were formally rejected by health authorities in Cairo due to serious food safety risks.

A targeted interception at the Autonomous Port of Dakar

After being rejected in Egypt and reported in Gambia, the ship flying a sub-regional flag headed towards Guinea-Bissau before setting course for the Senegalese capital to unload its highly suspicious contents.

To prevent any risk of this toxic meat entering local distribution channels, the Director General of the National Police has instructed the National Hygiene Service to take immediate action. Sanitary control teams and security forces have been directed to trace, identify, and seal container SEGU9649833 upon its arrival at the Autonomous Port of Dakar (PAD), in accordance with legal procedures and due diligence requirements.
