Four individuals suspected of attempting to pass off bundles of blackened paper as genuine American banknotes were arrested on August 29, 2026, by the Faidherbe Research Brigade (BR), attached to the Dakar gendarmerie company. The operation, carried out thanks to the infiltration of an agent posing as a "technician," resulted in the seizure of blackened paper with a total estimated value of 47,760,000 CFA francs, as well as two vehicles.

It all began on August 19, 2026, when the Dakar/Faidherbe Criminal Investigation Brigade received information about the activities of a group of individuals. These individuals were said to be in possession of blackened materials presented as US$100 bills and were looking for a technician capable of carrying out their alleged "washing," a process supposedly designed, after chemical treatment, to make these materials appear as genuine banknotes, in exchange for the promise of significant financial gains.

To verify this information and identify the protagonists, the investigators set up a system based in particular on the infiltration of an agent presenting himself as a specialist in this type of process.

The investigation quickly allowed the undercover agent to make contact with the suspects. They invited him to Diamniadio to examine the evidence and discuss the details of the alleged treatment.

On August 20, 2026, around 8:00 p.m., the agent went to the meeting point, under the cover of a security detail tasked with discreetly monitoring the discussions. This initial meeting focused on the details of the planned operation. Following the meeting, a second appointment was scheduled for August 28, again in Diamniadio, for the actual execution of the "washing."

On the appointed day, a surveillance operation was set up in Diamniadio. After locating the undercover agent, the suspects moved to Toubab Dialaw, where they went to an apartment believed to be the location for the operation. Discreet surveillance allowed investigators to pinpoint the location and track the group's movements.

As the suspects were preparing to act, a coordinated intervention with the undercover agent led to their arrest on August 29, 2026.

Who are the four suspects?

• GT, 46 years old, earthmover, residing in Diamniadio;

• BN, 37 years old, computer scientist;

• KS, 32 years old, worker, residing in Khombole;

• AD, 26 years old, footballer, residing in Diamniadio.

All four are being prosecuted for criminal association, attempted fraud and possession of materials intended for counterfeiting legal tender banknotes, according to Seneweb sources.

Nearly 48 million FCFA worth of counterfeit banknotes seized

At the time of the arrest, investigators discovered and seized a large quantity of blackened notes in $100 bills, with an estimated value of 20,040,000 CFA francs. Two vehicles used by the group for their travels were also seized: a white Ford Fusion and a Ford Escape.

The searches carried out at GT's home in Diamniadio then led to the discovery of a second batch of blackened materials in $100 notes, with an estimated value of 27,720,000 CFA francs.

In total, the value of the blackened media/banknotes discovered during all the operations amounts to 47,760,000 CFA francs.

What the initial findings of the investigation reveal

According to information obtained by Seneweb, the evidence gathered so far highlights collusion between the four men, evidenced by their meetings, their joint travel, the search for a supposed technician and the preparation of an operation intended to give an appearance of legitimacy to the "black money laundering" process.

Our sources also believe that the suspects sought to create the impression of a process capable of transforming blackened materials into genuine banknotes, with the aim of gaining a financial advantage.

GT, BN, KS and AD are due to be presented to the public prosecutor this Monday, unless there is a change of plans.
