8 mois de cavale, 4 pays traversés, bracelet électronique déverrouillé… : retour sur la chute d’un homme d’affaires arrêté aux Almadies
A Senegalese businessman, subject to an international arrest warrant, was arrested on October 25 in Almadies, Dakar, after eight months on the run abroad.
According to L'Observateur, which broke the story, the suspect, whose identity has not been revealed, reportedly stayed in Morocco, Ivory Coast, Guinea, and Gambia before discreetly returning to Senegal in October. "He was unaware that the gendarmes from the Research Brigade, who had been tailing him since February 18, were still monitoring him," L'Observateur reports. He was finally arrested in a luxury apartment in the Almadies district.
The man is notably cited in a case of alleged fraud involving more than 300 million CFA francs, fraudulently withdrawn from Wave and Orange Money accounts, as well as in a land case involving damages estimated at 1.372 billion.
Other accusations mentioned by the newspaper of the Future Media Group relate to tax evasion, fraud, forgery and use of forged documents, criminal association and money laundering.
The search of his apartment also reportedly allowed investigators to seize documents and equipment that could point the way to a network of accomplices. The investigation is ongoing, and those suspected of involvement are being actively sought, according to the same source.
