À Pout Diack, l’association Domou Sénégal inaugure une maternité réhabilitée au service de neuf villages
After 54 days of work, the maternity ward in Pout Diack now has a renovated, sanitized and better-suited environment for welcoming mothers, newborns and the daily work of medical teams.
Pout Diack (Thiès), August 22, 2026 – The Domou Sénégal association officially inaugurated the renovated maternity ward at the Pout Diack health post. The ceremony brought together local, religious, and health authorities, medical staff, residents, volunteers, and the teams involved in this project.

The morning was punctuated by speeches, a children's dance, the official ribbon-cutting ceremony, the unveiling of the commemorative plaque, and a guided tour of the maternity ward. Among the dignitaries present were Mr. Moustapha Faye, village chief; Dr. Aida Sall, head of the Pout Diack health post; and Dr. Amadou Mbaye Diouf, chief medical officer of the Thiès health district.
54 days to transform motherhood
Over 54 days, the work involved rehabilitating the main maternity building, upgrading the infrastructure, securing the site, and improving the outdoor spaces, notably through reforestation efforts. The consultation, delivery, and postpartum areas, as well as the restrooms, were redesigned to offer women, newborns, and medical staff a more dignified, safer, and more functional environment.
In addition to the construction work, the Domou Sénégal association provided the maternity ward with medical and diagnostic equipment, supplies, furniture, and consumables. This donation is intended to improve the working conditions of healthcare staff and the quality of care provided to mothers and newborns.
The rehabilitation of the maternity ward in Pout Diack addresses a real need for maternal healthcare in an area encompassing nine villages and nearly 9,965 inhabitants. The Domou Sénégal association aimed to make this project a community-based initiative, designed for pregnant women, families, and the surrounding communities.
“Life begins here. Every child born represents the future of our Senegal,” declared Nassrine Haïdar, President of the Domou Sénégal association, during the ceremony. Following the inauguration, the Domou Sénégal association symbolically handed over the keys to the maternity ward to the community and healthcare staff, with a call to ensure the long-term preservation of the facilities and equipment provided.
The Domou Senegal association thanks the local, religious, and health authorities, the medical staff, the technical teams, the volunteers, and the communities for their trust, cooperation, and support. For Domou Senegal, this achievement illustrates a simple conviction: when efforts are combined to address a fundamental need, lasting transformations can be accomplished for the benefit of an entire community.
