Fatal accident at the Mbao bridge: A driver taken into custody for manslaughter

A custody order for involuntary manslaughter was issued on Monday, November 2, 2026, against the driver involved in the traffic accident that occurred on October 23 at the Mbao bridge, which claimed the life of S. BAGAYOGO.

On Friday, October 23, 2026, at approximately 10:00 PM, a traffic accident involving injuries occurred near the Mbao bridge descent. The Mbao district police station conducted the investigation.

The victim has been identified as S. BAGAYOGO, 41 years old, a broker, residing in the Mbao business park. The driver involved is AM BA, 34 years old, a controller for SENELEC (the national electricity company) and residing in the Cocerson neighborhood (Mbao business park). He was driving a pickup truck belonging to SENELEC.

Seriously injured, S. BAGAYOGO was evacuated by firefighters to Fann Hospital, then transferred to Camp Thiaroye Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries there on October 31, 2026.

As the holder of a driver's license, AM BA had all the necessary documents for driving the vehicle. Following his questioning, he was released. However, the vehicle's documents and his driver's license were confiscated, and he was issued a certificate in return.

The death of the victim and the summons of the driver

On Monday, November 2, 2026, the head of the department at Camp Thiaroye Hospital issued the death certificate for S. BAGAYOGO, along with a request for an autopsy. Following this death, AM BA was summoned to the Mbao district police station to await the autopsy results.

On the same day, at 1 p.m., AM BA voluntarily presented himself at the police station, accompanied by his lawyer. He was taken into custody for manslaughter following a traffic accident that resulted in the death of a man.

When questioned about the facts, AM BA admitted them without hesitation, while requesting leniency from the justice system. The Public Prosecutor, Saliou Dicko, was informed of the case.
