The officers of the Tambacounda Central Police Station have dismantled an organized criminal network specializing in acts against nature. The operation resulted in the arrest of 35 individuals with diverse backgrounds, including four schoolchildren, two university students, two high school teachers, four health workers, a businessman, a development worker, and a tailor.
The ongoing investigation is revealing complex ramifications within this network. A uniformed officer is specifically mentioned by several defendants, who stated during their interrogations that they had had sexual relations with him.
A major health risk: 13 people tested positive for HIV
Beyond the legal aspects, the case is taking on a particularly worrying public health dimension in the eastern region. At this stage of the investigation, it appears that thirteen of those arrested are HIV-positive.
According to the findings of the investigating services, only three of them are currently receiving medical care and antiretroviral treatment. The rest of the group identified as carriers of the virus are not receiving any treatment.
All suspects have been taken into police custody. The investigation is actively continuing under the supervision of the relevant authorities to identify any accomplices and trace contacts, with the aim of preventing further spread of the disease.
