Actions pour un meilleur changement (APMC) : L’engagement associatif au service des daaras
In Tivaouane Peulh, the installation of a submersible pump and a water tank has transformed the daily lives of students at a local Koranic school. Led by the association Actions for Better Change (APMC), this initiative is part of a broader effort, supported by the Senegal Youth Consortium (CJS), to improve the living and learning conditions of talibés (students) across the country.
With a simple gesture, the water flows and years of hardship vanish. In this Koranic school located in the commune of Tivaouane Peulh, learning the Holy Quran will no longer be accompanied by the chores associated with searching for the precious liquid. Now readily available, the water gushing from this submersible pump brings joy to the 40 students of this institution, as well as to the entire neighborhood.
This pump and reservoir are a donation from the association Actions for a Better Change. Led by Abdoulaye Macalou Cissé, the association primarily works to improve access to drinking water, as well as distributing hygiene kits and clothing to talibés (Quranic students).
Entirely funded by its own resources, the installation of this pump in Tivaouane Peulh represents APMC's second intervention in the area of water access. The first was carried out in Djiddah Thiaroye Kao thanks to a grant of 500,000 FCFA from the Yaakaar Fund, managed by the CJS as part of the Youth and Citizenship project, with support from the French Development Agency (AFD). Continuing this momentum, and without waiting for external assistance, the association also responded to a request from a daara (Koranic school) in Nietti Mbar and put a third pump into service.
Keen to reach more talibés, the APMC hopes to extend its activities to a large part of the national territory in the coming years. To achieve this, it is appealing for contributions from everyone.
To ensure the long-term viability of these facilities, the APMC plans periodic on-site monitoring through the regular dispatch of a representative. The association also covers all costs related to their operation and maintenance.
