Affaire Astou Pierre : révélations sur des failles médicales
Her family had regained hope after her release from the hospital. Astou Pierre, a cashier born in 1983, ultimately succumbed to a pulmonary embolism on October 1st, after several months of suffering. In its Saturday edition, Le Soleil recounts the ordeal endured by the victim.
On June 23, she was rushed to a hospital in Dakar after being attacked with acid. Transferred to intensive care, then to plastic surgery for skin grafts, she was able to return home following a slight improvement, before her condition deteriorated sharply on September 28. "In addition to the absence of a complaint filed by the family, the police emphasize that no medical requisition was transmitted by the healthcare facility upon the victim's admission, and that no request for an autopsy was issued," the newspaper reveals. It was in response to the media attention that "the judicial authorities took up the case themselves." To shed light on these failings, "the deceased's family as well as officials from the hospital were summoned for questioning."
The main suspect, Alioune Badara Gaye, Astou Pierre's ex-boyfriend, is believed to have fled to Mauritania. Other leads point to him being in Morocco.
