Affaire du khat saisi aux États-Unis : un nouveau suspect arrêté à Karang
The case of the khat seized in the United States has taken a new turn in Senegal with the arrest of a Gambian national in Karang. B. Camara, 25, was apprehended on September 7 at the border with 34 kg of the substance. This arrest follows that of M. Fichoulou at Chicago airport, in connection with the seizure of several packages of khat.
According to Libération, B. Camara was traveling on a bus with 17 blocks of khat, each weighing approximately 2 kg. During his interrogation, he stated that he had received six packages from S. Niang in The Gambia, intended for shipment to the United States via the Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD). Five packages were allegedly transported by M. Fichoulou, who was arrested in Chicago. The sixth package, which remained in Diass at the home of N. Diallo, the manager of a furnished apartment, was then reportedly retrieved by B. Camara for delivery to a buyer in The Gambia.
The suspect, who claims to be a courier, was taken into custody for "criminal conspiracy, possession, importation, and international trafficking of narcotics (khat) as part of an organized criminal group." Libération reports that investigators are now seeking to identify other suspected members of the network and establish its "potential international connections."
