Affaire du Midazolam à Dalal Jamm : la direction brise le silence et...
The director of the Dalal Jamm National Hospital Centre, Dr. Samba Guèye, and the pharmacist Dr. Aïda Loukoubar react to the accusations of alleged drug trafficking within the establishment, concerning 300 ampoules of midazolam delivered in September 2025 by JM Faye.
Dr. Samba Guèye, interviewed by L'Observateur, explained: “We were facing an emergency due to a stock shortage. A request for supplies had been submitted to obtain a replacement from a supplier other than the National Supply Pharmacy (PNA). I gave my approval to avoid an interruption of service.” The director reiterated that the procedure was not unprecedented: “An agreement already existed between the hospital and the Petit-Ouzin pharmacy, and this type of emergency supply was a previous practice. We didn't invent anything.”
For her part, Dr. Aïda Loukoubar, quoted by the same source, confirms the emergency response initiated by the department: "We asked JM Faye to help us out because we were out of Midazolam. He responded to our request."
The pharmacist then reassured customers about the conformity and safety of the delivered products: "The medications came from a pharmacy. They were close to their expiry date, but they were not expired. We do not dispense expired medications."
Regarding the return of the medical equipment, Dr. Samba Guèye justifies the decision made after the pharmacy department refused to use it: “Since the medications had not been used and the department did not wish to keep them, returning them seemed preferable. Returning the products to the supplier is not a mistake. This is not a game of hide-and-seek.”
Finally, the director dismissed any risk to users: "None of the 30 boxes have been opened [...] and no patient has received these medications. To my knowledge, there has therefore been no exposure of patients to these products."
