Affaire Mor Mbaye Cissé : Reporters Sans Frontières demande "l'abandon des charges"
Reporters Without Borders (RSF) reacted strongly to the detention of journalist Mor Mbaye Cissé, from the Seneweb website, who is being prosecuted for allegedly spreading false news.
In a statement, the organization believes that "the prosecution of journalists on the basis of the Penal Code constitutes an attack on press freedom and must stop."
RSF is therefore calling on the authorities to "drop the charges against the journalist and to end the use of the Penal Code in cases relating to the exercise of journalism", believing that these cases should fall under the jurisdiction of the sector's regulatory bodies.
The journalist, it should be noted, was granted provisional release this Wednesday, pending his trial scheduled for next Monday.
The press freedom organization is maintaining the pressure, arguing that "the protection of journalistic work requires a suitable legal framework that complies with international standards."
