A new development has emerged in the case of wrestler Oumar Kane, alias "Reug Reug," and his two accomplices, who have already been charged by the investigating judge. According to exclusive information obtained by Seneweb, a fourth suspect has been apprehended by the Faidherbe Research Brigade since Tuesday, September 29. He is 41-year-old real estate agent Amady Diop, arrested in Bambilor for conspiracy, attempted fraud, and possession of materials used to counterfeit legal tender.

What the gendarmerie investigation reveals

According to the national gendarmerie's investigation, the analysis of voice messages exchanged on WhatsApp between Amady Diop and a certain Baye A. reveals that the latter offered to sell him counterfeit banknotes, known as "black bills." These were reportedly US$100 notes, with a face value of ten billion (10,000,000,000) US dollars, priced at ten million (10,000,000) CFA francs.

Amady Diop reportedly agreed to purchase the product. However, he specified that he had to wait for the "Saltigué" Diégane Faye, who was supposed to give him the necessary funds for payment.

Furthermore, an analysis of a voicemail message attributed to Diégane Faye, which Amady Diop allegedly forwarded to Baye A. via WhatsApp, reveals that Diégane Faye claims to have given a sample of the counterfeit bills to a supposed "technician" for preliminary checks. According to him, this technician confirmed that the bills were "good" and that all that remained was to send the rest of the batch. In the same message, Diégane Faye reportedly asked Amady Diop to contact Baye A. to send the entire batch, specifying that he already possessed the bills previously acquired from their contacts.

It also appears from his statements that the planned approach involved collecting all the proceeds before proceeding with the so-called "laundering" of the banknotes. Following this, the accused allegedly agreed to divide the sums obtained, each receiving their share according to the terms previously agreed upon between them.

The voice exchanges exploited by investigators would thus highlight contacts between the different protagonists around the acquisition, transport and alleged transformation of counterfeit banknotes, as well as their willingness to continue the operation after validation of a sample by the alleged technician.

Amady Diop's statements during his hearing

When questioned by investigators, Amady Diop, who claims to be a real estate agent, categorically denies any involvement in the manufacture, possession, circulation, or sale of counterfeit banknotes. He acknowledges knowing Diégane Faye, alias "Saltigué," with whom he has dealings related to the latter's maraboutic activities, particularly for prayers and mystical practices. He denies having sold or given him counterfeit banknotes, but admits to having introduced him to Baye A.

He acknowledges having been aware of exchanges in which Baye A. discussed a transaction involving ten billion (10,000,000,000) CFA francs, for an amount announced as ten million (10,000,000) CFA francs. He maintains that this sum could be linked to the mystical practices he was preparing and claims not to have understood that it was a counterfeit currency operation.

Regarding the meeting between the three suspects in the same vehicle, he stated that he had simply accompanied Diégane Faye, without knowing the exact content of the discussion between the latter and Baye A. He denies having stated, during his arrest, that Baye A. was the one who sold the counterfeit bills to Diégane Faye. He maintains that he personally never sold or gave counterfeit bills to the latter.

He acknowledges, however, that he agreed, while unemployed, to participate in a deal presented as likely to generate ten billion CFA francs, without having sought to determine its precise nature.

Ultimately, Amady Diop acknowledges his connections with Diégane Faye and Baye A., admitting to having put them in contact and receiving communications detailing a very large-scale financial transaction. However, he denies knowing its fraudulent nature or its connection to the counterfeit bills, and denies any involvement in their sale or distribution.

He was brought before the prosecutor's office on Thursday.

At the conclusion of the investigation, Amady Diop was brought before the Dakar High Court on Thursday, October 1st, for possible indictment. A resident of Bambilor, he is likely headed for prison.
