Albinisme : L’ANAS accueille la célébration avec l’inauguration d’une usine de crèmes solaires à Thiès
The National Association of Albinos of Senegal (ANAS) is actively preparing for the celebration of World Albinism Awareness Day, scheduled for June 13, 2026, under the theme "Proudly in our skin, let's celebrate all skin colors." This year's event will feature awareness-raising and advocacy activities promoting the rights and inclusion of people with albinism.
According to Ousseynou Sène, a member of ANAS, this day is a key moment to draw attention to the challenges faced by people with albinism in Senegal, including discrimination, difficulties in accessing employment, social integration and healthcare.
The event will bring together representatives from the association's various branches across the country, as part of a national mobilization aimed at promoting better integration of people living with albinism and raising public awareness.
One of the highlights of this celebration will be the inauguration of a sunscreen manufacturing laboratory installed at the ANAS center, in the Sampathé district of Thiès.
Presented as a unique infrastructure in West Africa, this laboratory is the result of several years of advocacy and efforts by the albino community of Senegal.
This production unit aims to meet an essential need of people with albinism, who are particularly exposed to the harmful effects of the sun.
Regular use of sunscreens is indeed one of the main means of prevention against skin diseases and skin cancer, to which this community is particularly vulnerable.
Through this initiative, ANAS intends to improve access to suitable sun protection products while strengthening the fight for the health, dignity and rights of people living with albinism in Senegal.
