In an interview with the newspaper Le Soleil, Amadeus recounts having to contend with his father's strict discipline. The artist remembers a man uncompromising about academic performance, who would make him recite his lessons, sometimes with a burning ember in his hand. "I was a good student and I was top of my class several times," he explains. "He was very demanding on this point. For him, education was paramount; I had to do my studies properly," he confides.
At the time, his burgeoning passion for rap had to conform to this discipline. To be allowed to attend a concert, young Saliou Samb had to maintain good grades. "So I had to find a balance between my passion for music and my father's expectations," he explains. This rigor accompanied him all the way to Gaston Berger University in Saint-Louis, where he earned a degree in communication. Looking back, he understands his father's intentions: "He wanted me to have a solid foundation, to receive formal training, and for music not to be an escape from my studies."
Amadeus also describes a happy childhood, marked less by material comfort than by his parents' affection, spirituality, and the transmission of values. An environment which, according to him, explains the important place of love in his songs.
Music was an integral part of daily family life. His father listened to "xassidas," his mother appreciated the great voices of Senegalese song, notably Kiné Lam, Dial Mbaye, and Maty Thiam Dogo, while his older brothers introduced him to rap, with artists like Fou Malade and Xuman. This sonic diversity nurtured his sensibilities and helped shape his artistic world.

In high school, a classmate with a passion for technology introduced him to Audacity. Together, they began experimenting with recording music. The positive reception from the audience at their school's cultural events encouraged them to continue. This first experience marked the beginning of a journey that would lead Saliou Samb to become known as Amadeus.
