Autoroute Mbour-Kaolack : Le cri de cœur des populations de l’arrondissement de Ngodj
A group defending the interests of the Ngodj district, which includes the municipality of Gandiaye, stated on Saturday that the construction of the Mbour-Kaolack highway is a hindrance rather than an advantage for the district.

The group organized a demonstration this Saturday. Wearing red armbands, its members marched peacefully alongside the highway to demand the construction of a toll plaza exit allowing residents of the Ngodj district to access the infrastructure. This district comprises the municipalities of Sibassor, Gandiaye, Thiomby, Ndiébel, and Dya.

“In the initial Ageroute project, there was planned to be an exit at Keur Mbagne Diop, called the Gandiaye interchange. Unfortunately, we discovered a few months before the completion of the work that this was not the case. We learned that the project was suspended, without understanding the reasons. It was from this point that we began administrative procedures with the Ageroute authorities, the administrative authorities and the populations of the municipalities concerned,” explained Mamadou Diouf, their spokesperson for the day.

For the protesters, building an infrastructure of this nature without integrating the needs of the surrounding communities is an aberration.

“All we are asking is that the authority take this complaint into account, try to see what the technical reasons for this suspension were and that a technical study be carried out. That it engage in serious dialogue and that a collective commitment can obviously allow the realization of this infrastructure, because it will have an impact on security, on the economy and on opening up the area,” he says.

According to the spokesperson for the group, if this infrastructure is not built, it will be very difficult for the people living on either side of the highway to cross it and continue their daily lives. For the protesters, the highway is currently a hindrance, not an advantage, for these communities, when it should be the opposite.
