Baltimore : l’incendie cachait un meurtre, un Sénégalais tué
A crime disguised as a crime. In Baltimore, USA, the death of Cheikh Dieng, a Senegalese national, is now considered a homicide. Les Échos, which reported the news, recalls that the lifeless body of this father of a family was discovered by firefighters in the rubble of a burned-out apartment in the Cherry Hill neighborhood, initially suggesting a tragic accident.
While the theory of an accident or asphyxiation initially circulated within the community, the autopsy conducted by the American forensic pathologist ultimately ruled out this hypothesis. The examinations revealed that Sheikh Dieng was already dead before the fire started, suggesting that the fire was "deliberately started to conceal the crime" and "delete evidence."
Faced with this "macabre scene," the Baltimore police homicide squad immediately took over the investigation. Investigators are now analyzing the victim's recent contacts to determine the motive and identify the perpetrator(s) of this murder, the newspaper reports.
In Senegal, the news plunged the deceased's family into deep sorrow. His relatives are demanding that "the truth be uncovered" and that justice be served. In the United States, the Senegalese diaspora in Baltimore quickly mobilized to support the widow and children of the deceased, while also organizing a fundraiser for the repatriation of his remains to his homeland, concludes Les Échos.
