Bignona : Vaste opération de sécurisation à Kataba 1, plus de 100 personnes arrêtées
A major security operation conducted by the gendarmerie in the Kataba 1 district led to the arrest of 103 people and the impounding of over one hundred vehicles. Deployed over three days in several localities within the Bignona department, the operation aimed to strengthen security, combat crime, and prevent irregular migration.
From Friday, October 9 at 11:30 p.m. to Monday, October 12, 2026, security forces conducted a large-scale control and surveillance operation in the communes of Kafountine and Diouloulou. Several localities were affected, including Dianah, Abéné, Albadar, Colomba, Bandjikaki, Kabadio, Niafrang, and Selety.
The operation mobilized significant personnel on the ground. The gendarmes conducted checks in bars, hostels, tourist campsites, nightclubs, and butane gas depots. The investigations also extended to working-class neighborhoods, outlying areas, and major public spaces.
To ensure optimal security coverage, several checkpoints have been established on strategic roads, including the road leading to the Karones Islands, fishing wharves, and major intersections in the area. Beaches, landing stages, and riverbanks have also been subject to increased surveillance as part of the fight against irregular migration.
According to figures released by GMS sources, 103 people were arrested. Among them, 98 were detained for identity checks, two for conspiracy, and three for possession of cannabis.
The roadside checks resulted in the inspection of 46 vehicles. Eleven of them were impounded for various infractions, including overflowing cargo, worn tires, lack of administrative documents or lack of insurance.
The police also checked 218 motorcycles. The report indicates 93 impoundments related to various infractions. Among the violations noted were failure to wear a helmet for 58 motorcyclists, unauthorized passenger transport on five motorcycles, lack of registration documents for 13 vehicles, and the use of loud horns for 17 others.
The fixed fines collected during this operation amounted to 312,000 CFA francs. No incidents were reported throughout the operation. Further checks carried out by the security forces revealed no particular irregularities.
This new operation is part of the regular security actions carried out in the department of Bignona, particularly in the coastal areas of the district of Kataba 1, where the authorities intend to strengthen the security of the population, improve road safety and prevent activities related to irregular migration.
