Câbles Senelec : la DIC démantèle un réseau impliqué dans le pillage de plusieurs postes électriques
The Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) has dismantled a network specializing in the theft and vandalism of Senelec's electrical installations. Seven individuals were arrested as part of this investigation, which was launched following a complaint from the national electricity company.
The case began on September 21, 2026, when Senelec filed a complaint with the DIC (Criminal Investigation Division) against persons unknown for theft and vandalism. The alerts came primarily from residents of the Rufisque department, who were experiencing disruptions due to repeated acts of sabotage.
Dispatched to the scene, Senelec technicians noted several burglaries and damage to electrical substations located in particular in Diamniadio, Kounoune, Sangalkam and Sébikotane.
Taking over the investigation, the DIC deployed its investigators to gather evidence and increase surveillance and patrol operations in the affected areas. These investigations reportedly led to the identification and arrest of several members of the network.
According to the evidence gathered during the investigation, the main suspect and his alleged accomplices admitted during their interrogations to their involvement in several operations to loot electrical substations during the months of May, August and September 2026. They allegedly acted with the aim of making a financial profit from the stolen equipment.
The investigation then continued, focusing on the suspected receivers of stolen goods. A search of the warehouses of a local company led investigators to discover several electrical cables. According to the plaintiff, these cables originated directly from Senelec's facilities.
The technical analysis of the data collected by investigators has also made it possible to confirm the presence of the various members of the group in the areas and on the dates corresponding to the series of burglaries.
In total, seven individuals were arrested and taken into custody for criminal association, burglary committed at night in a group with a vehicle, destruction of public property, including electrical installations, receiving stolen goods and complicity in these offenses.
