Cas de noyades : on sait pourquoi la plage de la BCEAO ne tue plus
According to the president of the Senegalese Association of Lifeguards, 63 drowning cases have been officially recorded across Senegal since last April. Ibrahima Fall notes that most beaches in the Dakar region have been spared. He points out that this is the case for the BCEAO beach, where no drownings have been reported since the beginning of the year.
If the capital has been spared from this phenomenon, it is thanks to the City of Dakar. The city hall ensures the safety of the 26 beaches within its jurisdiction by deploying lifeguards. Through this precaution, it assumes a responsibility transferred to the departments with a coastline.
Based on the effectiveness of the system in the capital, Ibrahima Fall urges other municipalities to follow suit and stop hiding behind a lack of resources. "All the suburban departments have the resources for this," asserts the president of the lifeguards of Senegal. "Municipalities with a coastline must recruit lifeguards and develop their beaches."
