Ce que l'on sait de l'effondrement d'un immeuble à Kaolack et du bilan humain
New details are emerging following the tragedy that occurred Saturday evening in the Taba Ngoye neighborhood of Kaolack. The collapse of a two-story building (ground floor + 2 floors) claimed the life of Koranic teacher Serigne Sidy Talla, the first identified victim of the accident.
On the ground, emergency services deployed a large-scale operation to carry out clearing and search activities. According to Lieutenant Colonel Erasmus Sambou, commander of Fire and Rescue Group 3, the operation mobilized 43 officers and firefighters, supported by 11 military engineers. The rescue teams deployed two ambulances, a fire engine, a road rescue vehicle, and a liaison vehicle.
In the face of this latest tragedy, Commander Sambou raised the alarm about the state of the city's housing stock. Emphasizing that this was the "umpteenth time" that rescue workers had encountered such a disaster in the capital of the Saloum region, he issued an urgent appeal to the relevant authorities to take decisive action against buildings threatening to collapse.
