Climat, conflits, pauvreté : Fatima Maada Bio veut les femmes africaines à la table des décisions
“Women and girls must not just survive African crises.” In Dakar, on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, Fatima Maada Bio, First Lady of Sierra Leone and President of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), called for a paradigm shift: making African women not just beneficiaries of resilience policies, but full actors in decisions and solutions to climate change, conflict, and poverty.
At the official launch of the "Building Resilience" campaign, she called on governments, development partners, and the private sector to invest more in girls' education, women's economic empowerment, their access to finance, and their participation in peacebuilding. For her, resilience cannot be limited to the ability to survive crises: it requires resources, opportunities, and a real voice in decision-making bodies.
Launched in Senegal at the initiative of First Lady Marie Khone Faye, this continental campaign aims to promote sustainable responses to the crises that disproportionately affect women and girls. Fatima Maada Bio emphasized the need to move beyond rhetoric and embrace action, public policies, and measurable investments. Her message is unequivocal: African women must no longer bear the brunt of crises alone; they must also participate fully in building solutions.
