Conflits en Afrique : Marie Khone Faye met en lumière le drame des femmes contraintes à l’exil
The devastation wrought by armed conflict is not measured solely by the intensity of the fighting or the extent of material damage. It is also evident in the trauma of shattered lives and the precarious existence of millions of women and girls forced to abandon everything to flee the violence. This painful reality was at the heart of the speech given by the First Lady of Senegal, Marie Khone Faye, on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, in Dakar, at the official launch of the "Building Resilience" campaign.
In mentioning the plight of women forced into exile, the wife of the head of state included this issue among the priority challenges that Africa must urgently address.
Violence , school dropout, and precarious living conditions: The urgent need to protect the most vulnerable
Initiated under the auspices of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), the "Building Resilience" campaign aims to raise awareness among the international community and policymakers about the multifaceted threats facing women in crisis situations. Marie Khone Faye emphasized that exile exacerbates exposure to gender-based violence, leads to girls dropping out of school, and deprives mothers of any independent economic opportunities.
In response to these urgent situations, the First Lady made a solemn appeal for a general mobilization to restore hope and dignity to refugee and internally displaced women. According to her, the implementation of appropriate educational programs and the funding of economic empowerment projects are essential levers for rebuilding their future prospects.
This stance serves as a reminder that African resilience cannot be achieved without effective protection of populations affected by security crises and a strong political will to ensure their social reintegration.
