Coup d'arrêt à l'orpaillage clandestin à Kédougou : la Gendarmerie de Mako démantèle un site illégal
The fight against the plundering of mineral resources is intensifying in the Kédougou region. On October 17, 2026, the Mako Local Brigade dealt a severe blow to illegal miners by dismantling an illegal gold mining site located in the village of Kanoumery, within the commune of Tomboronkoto.
This targeted operation allowed the gendarmes to arrest four individuals caught in the act of illegal mining. The intervention also resulted in the seizure of a significant amount of equipment used by the miners to extract the ore.
On site, the gendarmerie confiscated two motorcycles, five water pumps, and a solar panel. Officers also seized five generators, two of which were fully functional while three were out of order. Finally, the recovered construction equipment included a jackhammer, sixteen shovels, and nine pickaxes.
As confirmed to Seneweb by Colonel Ibrahima Ndiaye, head of the communication and public relations division of the national gendarmerie.
