An individual was arrested in Grand-Yoff for offering or supplying marijuana, resisting arrest, assaulting officers in the performance of their duties, and endangering the lives of others. His arrest escalated into a confrontation with local youths, during which a police officer sustained minor injuries.
On October 26, 2026, at approximately 4:30 a.m., officers from the Grand-Yoff district police station were patrolling the Djiddah neighborhood, at a known drug dealing spot called "Opinthio." There, they apprehended an individual who identified himself as Mr. Sow, alias "Kalamou," aged 36. This self-proclaimed electrician stated that he resided in Grand-Yoff.
During the security pat-down, police discovered in his possession eight cones of Indian hemp and a bag containing the same drug in bulk.
An arrest that turns into a confrontation
As they were putting him in the police vehicle, he physically resisted and then alerted local residents. Several young people from the neighborhood then intervened and violently opposed the police action by throwing projectiles.
To control the hostile crowd, ensure the safety of the officers and extract the detainee, the patrol officers used warning shots before reinforcements arrived.
A police officer was injured
Meanwhile, police officer IK was slightly injured by a stone. He also lost his mobile phone.
Furthermore, an accomplice of the accused fled, abandoning his motorcycle at the scene. A search of the vehicle revealed, in the trunk, a passport issued in the name of DM Sow, a driver's license in the name of PT Kane, and a national identity card in the name of MB. These documents were placed under seal.
The investigations are continuing in order to establish all responsibilities and shed light on these offenses.
