Cyberattaque contre Avia : une élève de Terminale interpellée après avoir reçu 1,8 million FCFA
AA Diop, a 22-year-old high school senior at a private school in Zone B, was arrested by the Special Cybersecurity Division (DSC). Libération reveals that she is among those identified as beneficiaries in an investigation into a cyberattack targeting the Avia digital financial services platform, operated by GSIE Technology on behalf of the microfinance institution ACEP.
The alleged role of the high school student
After receiving a transfer of 1.8 million CFA francs, the young woman explained to investigators that someone had called her from Ivory Coast asking her to withdraw the money in exchange for a 200,000 CFA franc commission. However, she provided no evidence to support her claims.
1,219 customer accounts compromised
On September 12 and 13, the same source recounts, hackers exploited a security vulnerability, installed malicious programs ("web shells"), and stole login data, including customer usernames and passwords. This information allowed them to fraudulently access 1,219 accounts.
168.2 million targeted, more than 11 million diverted
On September 23, cybercriminals created 39 fictitious e-wallets and then initiated 842 transfers from 35 customer accounts, totaling 168,200,500 FCFA. Fortunately, the funds could not be withdrawn. However, the newspaper adds, 79 instant transfers to eight Orange Money wallets were successful, resulting in losses estimated at over 11 million FCFA. The investigation is ongoing.
