Désespérée d’avoir un enfant : La femme d’un émigré cherche de l’aide chez un marabout qui finit par l’engrosser
If the judge follows the prosecutor's recommendation, marabout B. Souaré will spend 15 years behind bars. Accused of rape, quackery, and attempted abortion on a married woman, he was tried this Tuesday in the criminal court of Pikine-Guédiawaye. The accused was remanded in custody on September 22, 2021.
According to the prosecution, the events date back to September 2021. Ms. A. Diop, married since 2011, whose husband is abroad, wanted to have a child. In desperation, she confided in her friend A. Diol, who put her in touch with her uncle B. Souaré, a marabout residing in Parcelles Assainies.
Initially, he gave the woman a bucket of water prepared with gris-gris (amulets) to purify her body. But three months later, when she went to his home to collect more talismans, B. Souaré gave her a mystical potion to drink. After ingesting the brew, the victim claimed to have lost her sense of judgment. Taking advantage of her vulnerability, the marabout forced her to undress and raped her. This subterfuge was repeated two more times.
Noticing the prolonged absence of her period, A. Diop informed the marabout. To quell the distress, the marabout sold her, for 35,000 FCFA, a potion supposedly designed to terminate the pregnancy. The liquid triggered violent vomiting and acute diarrhea in the victim.
When questioned by his client, the marabout claimed that her cycle was blocked by djinns. However, the woman's belly continued to grow.
A medical consultation and an ultrasound at the hospital revealed a five-month pregnancy. Faced with the evidence, the marabout refused to answer her calls and tried to flee. A. Diop then decided to file a complaint on September 11, 2021, at the Golf Sud police station.
The relentless DNA expertise of the IRESSEF lab
During questioning, B. Souaré categorically denied any sexual relationship with the complainant, claiming he had only practiced mystical healing (sangatt, safara, and istikhar). He denied paternity of the child born from the pregnancy. However, the investigating magistrate was able to rely on irrefutable scientific evidence.
Genetic testing ordered from IRESSEF (Institute for Health Research, Epidemiological Surveillance and Training) analyzed 25 genetic markers. The report is conclusive: B. Souaré shares all the alleles with the child. He is indeed the biological father.
The investigating judge has brought serious charges.
In his committal order, the investigating judge of the first chamber of Pikine-Guédiawaye upholds the charges of rape, quackery and attempted abortion.
In court, B. Souaré denied the rape charge. He stated that the woman had consented and that they had sexual relations three times in Dalifort. It was after five months of pregnancy, following a friend's observation of her changing physique, that the plaintiff began to speak of rape, as her husband was living in Italy.
The lawyer for the plaintiff, who is seeking his conviction, has claimed the sum of 10 million FCFA for all causes and damages combined.
In his observations, the public prosecutor, who believes that the facts against the accused are consistent, requested a sentence of 15 years' imprisonment.
Following Me Abdoulaye Sene, from the defense, who pleaded consent, the case was adjourned for deliberation until November 3, 2026.

Loin de vouloir accabler la victime, il faut reconnaître parfois que La négligence des femmes frise la culpabilité : abusé une fois mais elle revient encore …. C’est juste incompréhensible
De façon plus générale les femmes deviennent de plus en plus négligentes face aux règles de base de réserve que doit avoir une femme dans ses relations avec les hommes autres que son conjoint :
- une femmes ne doit pas de faire maquiller ou masser par des hommes
- une femme ne doit pas confier son corps à des inconnus même doter de supposé pouvoir mystique
- une femme ne donne pas et ne doit pas accepter des câlins (dites amicaux) avec des hommes autres que leurs conjoints (collègues, « amis », camarade partenaire ..) ses petits bisous, ses accolades, ses prises de mains font naître souvent des désirs inavouables
- une femme que doit pas tenir des conversations impudiques encore moins avec des hommes ;
- sont à bannir absolument les tenues qui dévoilent toutes les formes de l’intimité d’une femme (robe ou pantalon avec tissus léger porter sans sous-vêtements c’est vulgaire et pas digne d’une femme qui se respecte encore moins une femme mariée)
- une femme doit être jalouse de son image poser partout n’importe comment et avec n’importe qui ce n’est pas se respecter soi-même ni respecter son conjoint : malheureusement on voit de plus en plus des femmes qui s’exhibent sur les réseaux sociaux des fois pour aucune raison
