The "Builders – Tabax" movement is calling on President Bassirou Diomaye Faye to suspend the activities of the National Assembly and dissolve it on December 2nd. Its president, Bassirou Gaye, former local leader of the Alliance of Progressive Forces (AFP), has also demanded audits of several financial matters.
“Senegal is one and indivisible. No one can divide it in two,” declared Bassirou Gaye. He warned against the risk of tensions stemming, in his view, from political issues manipulated by a faction. While acknowledging the right of members of parliament to ask questions and challenge the system, he urged them not to seek to “destroy” those implicated.
For him, politics should not be synonymous with animosity. In this context, the movement is asking the head of state to use his prerogatives to suspend the activities of the National Assembly before dissolving it on December 2nd.
Bassirou Gaye also demands clarifications and audits concerning the funds allegedly intended for Casamance, the acquisition of vehicles by Dame Sarr, the ASER case, involving 37 billion CFA francs, and that of Kosmos, mentioning 30 billion CFA francs.
He specifically questioned El Malick Ndiaye about the conditions under which the National Assembly's vehicles were acquired, recalling that Ndiaye had described these expenditures as wasteful. The movement's president thus demanded explanations regarding the contracts awarded and an audit of the public funds involved.
The movement also believes that Touba does not sufficiently benefit from national resources. Bassirou Gaye mentioned the city's persistent difficulties with flooding, transportation, security, and infrastructure.
He also drew attention to the economic difficulties faced by women in Touba, who, according to him, are forced to get up as early as 5 a.m. to provide for their families, despite significant difficulties in accessing financing.
