Distinction : Riad Kawar élevé au grade de Chevalier de l’Ordre national du Lion
Riad Kawar was elevated to the rank of Knight of the National Order of the Lion on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, one of the highest honorary distinctions of the Republic of Senegal. A native of Dakar and of Franco-Lebanese origin, he is known to the general public for his weather forecasts, which are widely followed on social media.
Upon receiving this distinction, he shared a message filled with emotion and gratitude. He expressed his profound appreciation to the President of the Republic, Grand Master of the National Order of the Lion, as well as to the Senegalese authorities for this mark of confidence.
"This decoration is not only an honor, it is also a duty," he said, reaffirming his commitment to continue serving Senegal "with loyalty, humility and determination."
In his message, Riad Kawar also paid tribute to the Senegalese people, stating that this distinction belongs to all those who contribute daily to the country's development. He specifically commended farmers, fishermen, women working in rice paddies, fields, markets, and workshops, as well as entrepreneurs, artisans, laborers, teachers, healthcare workers, and members of the defense and security forces.
The recipient dedicated this distinction to his parents, to whom he attributes the values of hard work, respect, and perseverance that have guided his path. He also wished to include all Senegalese people in this tribute.
A figure appreciated for his weather analyses and forecasts, Riad Kawar has established himself over the years as a reference in monitoring climatic phenomena in Senegal, helping to raise awareness among the population about the issues related to weather and climate change.
