Drame à Pikine : Elle accouche en pleine rue, abandonne le bébé dans un sachet puis donne naissance à un second
A bizarre tragedy shook the Pikine Sotiba neighborhood on Thursday, October 8, 2026. The tragic discovery of a lifeless newborn in a plastic bag allowed law enforcement to uncover the circumstances of a clandestine double birth. The case took a particularly unusual turn because the young mother was unaware she was carrying twins: while the first child did not survive, the second is now safe and sound.
The case began around 9 a.m. with the gruesome discovery made by Ms. ANG at her food stall. Upon inspecting a plastic bag on her table, she was horrified to discover it contained the body of a newborn baby.
Alerted, police officers from the Pikine district station arrived at the scene where they learned that a local doctor had already transferred the body to the Safia Service Santé private clinic. The nurse, BD, reportedly attempted to resuscitate the infant, who had already died. The body was then taken to the morgue at the Baye Talla Diop health center in Pikine, according to Seneweb sources.
A second birth in an abandoned building
A new incident occurred near the clinic. Local residents surprised a young woman giving birth amidst the rubble of an abandoned building. The woman was quickly attended to by the clinic's medical staff before being handed over to the police.
The confessions of a mother overwhelmed by events
Identified as S. Ndour, the 22-year-old woman is from Fissel and works as a housekeeper. During her interview, she explained that she was on her way to work that morning when she was suddenly struck by severe abdominal pain near the Pikine Khourounar public garden.
Overcome by contractions in the middle of the street, she gave birth to her first baby, whom she initially thought was stillborn. Panicked, she wrapped the child in a plastic bag before abandoning it on a table in a roadside eatery.
A few moments later, as she tried to move away, a new wave of pain forced her to take refuge in the abandoned building where she gave birth to her second baby, this time alive.
When questioned by police, the woman stated that she had never attended prenatal appointments and was completely unaware that she was carrying twins. The result of an unwanted pregnancy with her lover, Mr. Sagne, she had concealed her situation from her family and friends, including those with whom she shared a room near the Chavanel market.
To definitively establish the medical causes of the first newborn's death, a request for an autopsy was issued by the competent authorities. The public prosecutor at the Pikine Guédiawaye High Court, Saliou Dicko, was informed of the progress of the case.
The young mother and her surviving child remain under medical observation and strict police guard at the Baye Talla Diop health center while the investigation continues. She is suspected of infanticide.
