Émigration irrégulière : 228 migrants partis du Sénégal arrivent aux îles Canaries
The Atlantic route to Spain continues to attract those seeking irregular migration. On the night of Wednesday, October 22, a pirogue carrying 62 migrants, including three minors and three women, arrived at the port of La Restinga, on the island of El Hierro, in the Canary Islands archipelago.
According to Spanish rescue services, the boat reached shore around 1:30 a.m., after a seven-day sea voyage. Passengers reported that the pirogue had departed from Saint-Louis, in northern Senegal. Its occupants came from several West African countries, including Senegal, Mali, Gambia, and Guinea-Conakry.
A second pirogue, also departing from Senegal, landed on the same island this Thursday with 166 people on board, including three women and three minors. According to available information, all passengers are in good health.
In total, 228 migrants landed in El Hierro on board these two boats, with no health problems reported among the occupants, according to the information provided.
These new arrivals illustrate the continued departures from the West African coast to the Canary Islands, after long and perilous crossings.
