The lifeless body of a 33-year-old Senegalese man, whose identity has not been released, was found on a public road in Marbella, Spain. According to reports in the Spanish press, as reported by Les Échos, "rescue workers initially suspected a serious traffic accident or a hit-and-run," but they ultimately discovered that "the victim had two gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen, definitively ruling out a road accident."
The incident appears to have occurred between Monday night and Tuesday morning, around 2 a.m. "Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots and seeing three individuals arguing violently. Two individuals then reportedly fled in a vehicle immediately after the shooting," reports Les Échos.
The newspaper reports that the investigation has been entrusted to the Violent Crime Unit (UDEV) of the Marbella police station. The same source indicates that "investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and interviewing witnesses in the neighborhood to identify and locate the perpetrators of the shooting."
According to Les Échos, the police are convinced that the case is not linked to drug trafficking "although [the area where the tragedy took place] is regularly the scene of settling of scores linked to organized crime."
The daily newspaper reports that the victim's body has been taken to the Malaga Institute of Forensic Medicine for autopsy.
