Ex-détenu : l’infirmier de l’UCAD promet une grâce présidentielle contre 1,2 million FCFA
Formerly detained in connection with the 2021-2024 political protests, L. Touré, 44, a nurse at Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD), has returned to prison. According to L'Observateur, which attended the hearing, he was sentenced to six months in prison by the Guédiawaye court for fraud. The newspaper, part of the Groupe Futurs Médias, reports that the defendant exploited a relationship he had forged in prison with a fellow inmate, A. Thiam, to swindle 1.2 million CFA francs from Thiam's sister. He promised to take steps to obtain a presidential pardon for her brother and to prepare a medical file. In court, the nurse admitted to receiving the funds, claiming they were related to a land transaction, a version rejected by the court.
The case includes a second part concerning a visa scam for Europe. L'Observateur explains that a second victim, A. Ndao, put in contact with the defendant by A. Thiam, gave him 2.2 million CFA francs to facilitate visa applications and the preparation of medical documents. These promises were never fulfilled. In addition to his prison sentence, L. Touré will have to pay 2.2 million CFA francs in damages to A. Ndao. The court reserved judgment on civil damages concerning the Thiam family.
