Féminicide d'Astou Pierre : Marche pacifique pour exiger le rapatriement du suspect localisé en Mauritanie
Emotion and anger were palpable this Friday, October 16, 2026, in the streets of the Grand Dakar district. Between 3:00 PM and 5:12 PM, members of the "Justice for Astou Pierre Collective" organized a peaceful march to honor the memory of the late Aïssatou Pierre, known as Astou Pierre, and to demand that the truth be revealed about her tragic death.
To understand the reasons for this widespread mobilization, we must go back to June 23, 2026, the day of the tragedy. On that day, the victim was allegedly doused with a corrosive substance by her ex-partner, Alioune Badara Gaye. Admitted to Fann Hospital as an emergency case, she began a long and arduous medical journey.
During her hospitalization, she was successively treated by the multi-purpose intensive care unit, the infectious diseases unit, and then the plastic, aesthetic and reconstructive surgery unit, where she notably underwent skin grafts.
After a temporary improvement in her health, the young woman was able to return to her family home on September 4, 2026. Unfortunately, her respite was short-lived. On September 28, 2026, respiratory complications required her emergency readmission to the same hospital. Astou Pierre finally passed away on October 1, 2026, around 9 p.m., from a pulmonary embolism. She was buried the following day in the Yoff cemetery.
It was in the wake of these tragic events that Friday's demonstration took place. The procession followed a well-defined route, starting from the IPG, taking the street of the Liberté 04 mosque, passing in front of the SEN EAU agency in Sicap, Sicap-Liberté, the old town hall, the sub-prefecture of Grand Dakar, before paying respects in front of the deceased's home in Liberté 04.
The event brought together a large crowd including residents of the neighborhood, actors of the local navétanes movement, as well as several personalities including the mayor of Sicap-Liberté.
Wearing white t-shirts and carrying scarves and printed banners, the demonstrators displayed explicit messages such as "Justice for Astou Pierre Collective, a life shattered by violence," "Justice for Astou Pierre Collective, mobilization against femicide, peaceful march for justice for the deceased Astou Pierre," or simply "Justice for Astou Pierre." Throughout the march, the procession repeatedly chanted this slogan demanding that justice be served.
During the key stage at the Grand Dakar sub-prefecture, the organizers formally submitted a memorandum to the authorities. One after another, the speakers took the floor to vehemently denounce this femicide. They strongly urged the Senegalese police and judicial authorities to use all necessary legal means to apprehend the perpetrator, who, according to Seneweb sources, has taken refuge in Mauritania since the crime to evade prosecution.
The march proceeded peacefully and without incident. The demonstrators dispersed as soon as the procession ended, under the watchful eye of the security detail deployed by the Dieuppeul district police station.
