Gambia River: strong rise in water levels in Kédougou, vigilance remains at green.

The level of the Gambia River continues to rise at the Kédougou station. According to the daily hydrological bulletin of the Tambacounda/Kédougou Water Resources Brigade, published on August 11, 2026, the water level measured at 8 a.m. reached 3.49 meters, compared to 2.82 meters the previous day.

This represents a dramatic rise of 67 centimeters in 24 hours. Despite this rapid increase, the water level remains 3.51 meters below the alert threshold of 7 meters. The bulletin therefore places the area under green alert, indicating that no particular vigilance is required at this time.

Levels rising at several stations

The upward trend is also observed at several other monitoring points. At Simenti, the level rose from 4.13 to 4.41 meters, an increase of 28 cm. At Gouloumbou, the river reached 2.79 meters, up 18 cm. The Thiokoye station also recorded a rise of 14 cm, with the level reaching 1.93 meters. At Diaguiri, the water reached 1.28 meters, 9 cm higher than the previous day.

Conversely, some stations are recording a slight decrease. This is the case at Mako, where the level has fallen from 2.93 to 2.72 meters, a drop of 21 cm. The same trend is observed at Niokolokoba, with a decrease of 4 cm, to 3.91 meters.

The situation is still far from the alert thresholds.

Despite the recorded increases, the observed levels remain well below the alert thresholds. In Kédougou, the difference is 3.51 meters; it reaches 8.59 meters in Simenti, 9.21 meters in Gouloumbou and 4.72 meters in Diaguiri.

The hydrological bulletin of August 11th therefore does not indicate, at this stage, any situation requiring particular vigilance. However, the rise recorded in 24 hours in Kédougou, with a gain of 67 cm, is an indicator to be closely monitored in future measurements.
