Fleuve Gambie : la vigilance orange maintenue à Kédougou, plusieurs stations proches de la cote d’alerte.
The hydrological situation of the Gambia River remains under surveillance in the Kédougou region. The daily hydrological bulletin of September 28, 2026, reports significant fluctuations in water levels, with increases recorded at Simenti, Gouloumbou, and Thiokoye, while the stations at Kédougou, Mako, and Diaguiri are experiencing decreases.
In Kédougou, the Gambia River level stood at 6.54 meters at 8 a.m., compared to 6.93 meters the previous day, representing a decrease of 39 centimeters in 24 hours. Despite this drop, the situation remains under close monitoring, as the recorded level is only 46 centimeters below the alert threshold of 7 meters.
Comparison with the same period in 2025 reveals a significantly higher level. On September 28, 2025, the level was 5.24 meters. The year-on-year change thus shows an increase of 1.30 meters.
At Mako, the water level also receded, dropping from 5.88 to 5.50 meters, a decrease of 38 centimeters. With the alert level set at 6 meters, the difference is 50 centimeters. Here again, the level remains higher than that recorded on the same date in 2025, when it was 4.64 meters, representing an inter-year increase of 86 centimeters.
Significant increases in Simenti and Gouloumbou
However, the trend is reversed at some stations. At Simenti, the level rose from 10.73 to 11.54 meters, an increase of 81 centimeters in 24 hours. The alert level is set at 13 meters, leaving a margin of error of 1.46 meters.
In Gouloumbou, the water level reached 8.65 meters, compared to 8.10 meters the previous day, representing a rise of 55 centimeters. However, the level remains 3.35 meters below the alert threshold of 12 meters.
Diaguiri down, Thiokoye slightly up
At Diaguiri, the river level is 5.57 meters, compared to 6 meters the previous day, a drop of 43 centimeters. The station is 43 centimeters below its alert level, set at 6 meters.
In Thiokoye, however, a slight rise was recorded. The level reached 6.41 meters, compared to 6.31 meters the previous day, representing an increase of 10 centimeters. Compared to September 28, 2025, when the level was 2.93 meters, the year-on-year change shows an increase of 3.48 meters.
Data unavailable at two stations
The bulletin also notes the lack of updated data for the Niokolokoba and Diarha Pont stations. For Niokolokoba, current and previous water levels have not been received. For Diarha Pont, current data is unavailable.
Given this contrasting situation, the hydrological bulletin of September 28, 2026, maintains alert levels requiring close monitoring of waterways. In Kédougou, in particular, the level remains close to the alert threshold, while several other stations are still recording significant rises in water levels.
The services responsible for monitoring water resources remain particularly attentive to the evolution of the levels of the Gambia River and its tributaries.
