Fleuve Gambie : la vigilance orange maintenue, les niveaux d’eau évoluent en ordre dispersé à Kédougou
The hydrological situation of the Gambia River and its main tributaries remains under close monitoring in the Kédougou region. The daily hydrological bulletin of September 30, 2026, reports contrasting trends in water levels across different stations, with several significant drops, while some areas are still experiencing rising water levels. The orange alert remains in effect.
At the Kédougou station, the Gambia River level stood at 5.80 meters at 8:00 AM, compared to 6.35 meters the previous day. A drop of 55 centimeters in 24 hours was thus recorded. However, the level remains 1.20 meters below the alert threshold of 7 meters. Compared to the same period in 2025, the level is 0.96 meters lower.
At Mako, the trend is also downward. The water level has dropped from 5.22 meters to 5.03 meters, a decrease of 19 centimeters in one day. The current level is 0.97 meters below the alert level of 6 meters.
The situation is different in Simenti, where the river level continues to rise. It reached 12.08 meters, compared to 11.97 meters the previous day, representing an increase of 11 centimeters. However, the level remains 0.92 meters below the alert threshold of 13 meters. Over the past year, the river level has risen by 2.89 meters.
The same trend is observed in Gouloumbou, where the water level rose from 9.04 to 9.35 meters, an increase of 31 centimeters in 24 hours. The alert level is set at 12 meters, leaving a margin of error of 2.65 meters.
On the tributary side, the Thiokoye station shows a drop of 54 centimeters, with a level of 5.99 meters at 8 a.m. At Niokolokoba, however, the level rises by 23 centimeters to reach 5.70 meters.
The most dramatic drop was recorded at Diarha Pont. The level fell from 5.80 meters to just 3.16 meters, a decrease of 2.64 meters in 24 hours.
In Diaguiri, the water level is at 4.94 meters, compared to 5.21 meters the previous day, representing a decrease of 27 centimeters. It remains 1.06 meters below the alert level of 6 meters.
A situation to monitor
The data in the bulletin therefore show a contrasting evolution of the hydrographic network of the region, with decreases in Kédougou, Mako, Diaguiri, Thiokoye and Diarha Pont, against increases in Simenti, Gouloumbou and Niokolokoba.
Despite the absence, in today's data, of exceeding the alert levels indicated for the stations concerned, the bulletin calls for orange vigilance, inviting the population to remain particularly attentive to the evolution of the watercourses.
The services of the Water Resources Brigade of Tambacounda/Kédougou are thus continuing the daily monitoring of the hydrological situation of the Gambia River and its tributaries.
