Fleuve Gambie : le niveau de l’eau en baisse dans toutes les stations de mesure
Kédougou, Mako, Simenti, Gouloumbou… The level of the Gambia River and its tributaries continues to fall. In its daily hydrological bulletin of Wednesday, October 28, 2026, the Tambacounda-Kédougou Water Resources Brigade reports a general decrease in water levels, with no particular alerts in place.
The receding water levels are confirmed on the Gambia River and several of its tributaries. Readings taken this Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at 8:00 AM indicate a drop in water levels at all monitoring stations with up-to-date data, according to the daily hydrological bulletin from the Tambacounda-Kédougou Water Resources Brigade.
In Kédougou, the river level dropped from 2.76 meters on Tuesday, October 27th to 2.70 meters this Wednesday, a decrease of 6 centimeters in 24 hours. The situation is similar in Mako, where the water level fell from 2.80 to 2.73 meters, a drop of 7 centimeters.
The drop is more pronounced at Simenti. The station there recorded a decrease of 24 centimeters in one day, with the level falling from 4.61 to 4.37 meters. At Gouloumbou, the decline reached 48 centimeters, with the water level dropping from 8.26 to 7.78 meters.
Tributaries also receding
The downward trend is also affecting the tributaries of the Gambia River. In Diaguiri, the water level has fallen from 1.86 to 1.80 meters, a drop of 6 centimeters in 24 hours.
In Niokolokoba, the decrease is much more significant. The water level has dropped from 4.45 meters to 3.98 meters, corresponding to a decrease of 47 centimeters.
However, no new measurements were available at the Thiokoye station at the time the bulletin was published. The last recorded level, on October 27, was 1.76 meters.
No alert threshold reached
Despite these variations, the hydrological situation remains under control with regard to the alert thresholds indicated in the bulletin. In Kédougou, the observed level is 4.30 meters below the alert level set at 7 meters. In Mako, the difference is 3.27 meters compared to the threshold of 6 meters.
At Simenti, the water level remains 8.63 meters below the alert level of 13 meters. At Gouloumbou, it is 4.22 meters below the threshold set at 12 meters. At Diaguiri, the difference with the alert level of 6 meters is 4.20 meters.
As a result, the stations concerned remain under green alert, corresponding to the absence of any particular vigilance.
Overall levels lower than those projected for 2025
Comparison with readings from October 28, 2025 also shows generally lower water levels at several stations. In Kédougou, the water level has decreased by 11 centimeters over the past year, while the decline reaches 25 centimeters in Mako and 12 centimeters in Simenti.
In Niokolokoba, the recorded level is 1.35 meters lower than that of the same date in 2025. In Gouloumbou, on the other hand, the situation is different: with 7.78 meters, the water level exceeds by 2.74 meters that recorded a year earlier.
These data indicate a general decrease in water levels at the monitored stations, although the trends vary from one location to another. The Tambacounda-Kédougou Water Resources Brigade is therefore maintaining the green alert level at the stations covered by the available monitoring measures.
